CHS STUDENTS TO COMPETE FOR GOVERNOR’S HONORS

CARROLLTON, GA – Following an extensive application and interview process, 10 Carrollton High School students have been nominated to compete at the state level for Governor’s Honors.

The Governor’s Honors Program, known as GHP, is a four-week residential summer program for gifted and talented rising high school juniors and seniors.  Students who attend public, private, and home schools are eligible for nomination in one of 20 subject areas.

The nominees this year are Ella Barden, Belle Esslinger, Jeffrey Garcia, Emma Harris, Isabel Keller, Edward Kenyon, Serena McGuinn, Tyler Ou, Sarah Scholl and Mark Zimmer. All of the nominees are juniors, with the exceptions of Edward, Sarah and Tyler who are sophomores. Emma and Mark will compete in World Languages, Sarah will compete in Mathematics, Serena and Tyler in Dance, Belle, Ella and Edward in Science, Isabel in Communicative Arts, and Jeffrey in Music. Each student was nominated by one or more teachers in order to compete at the school level.

These students will now prepare for state, which also includes an application and personal interview process. GHP finalists will be announced next spring and the program will be held June 19 1through July 16 at Berry College in Rome.

Carrollton High School has a strong legacy of producing competitive GHP candidates. Last year, two of the 10 nominees cleared the next hurdle to be named semi-finalists. Of that cohort, Walker Camp was named a finalist and attended the program.

Ten CHS students have been named the school-level nominees for the Governor’s Honors Program.
