WGTC Foundation Awards Over $57,000 in Scholarships for Spring 2025

CARROLLTON, GA – The West Georgia Technical College (WGTC) Foundation awarded 71 individual scholarships for the 2025 spring semester totaling $57,984.

Scholarships cover a wide range of educational expenses, including tuition, books, and other related costs, and aim to reduce the financial barriers that students often face when pursuing higher education. Recipients were selected based on their academic achievements, financial need and commitment to their chosen fields of study.

Soyeon Lee, a General Studies student and a two-time recipient of the Swope Family Fund Pillar Scholarship, expressed gratitude to the Swope family for their contribution, which allowed her to increase her course load for the semester.

“Your support has made this possible, and I am very grateful,” Lee said. “As a non-traditional student with limited financial resources, this scholarship continues to be a tremendous help in my educational journey. It not only eases my financial burden but also motivates me to keep striving toward my goals, no matter how long it takes.”

The Foundation is also pleased to announce the launch of the Microsoft Scholars Program at WGTC. This semester, three students were honored as the inaugural Microsoft Scholars, paving the way for future IT professionals. To qualify, students must be enrolled in Computer Support Specialist, Networking Specialist, PC Repair and Network Technician, or Helpdesk Specialist programs, have Douglas as their home campus, and maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA. Recipients will continue receiving the award each semester until program completion, provided they meet the criteria.

“We are incredibly grateful for our donors’ generous support and their commitment to investing in technical education,” said WGTC Foundation Executive Director Brittney Wells. “These scholarships will have a profound impact on our students, providing them with the opportunity to gain the education and training needed to succeed in their careers.”

Scholarships are offered each semester to students in various programs and locations at WGTC. For more information about available scholarship opportunities, please visit www.westgatech.edu/foundation-scholarship.
