(PRESS RELEASE) CARROLLTON, GA – Carrollton High School’s STEM initiative and strong emphasis on increasing Advanced Placement (AP) course offerings earned CHS its 15th consecutive state recognition as an AP STEM Honor School and 13th distinction as an AP STEM Achievement School.

Carrollton High School is one of 301 high schools across Georgia to earn the honor this year.

“Georgia’s 2025 AP Honor Schools exemplify our commitment to providing students with rigorous, high-quality educational opportunities that prepare them for success beyond high school,” Superintendent Woods said. “I commend these schools for their dedication to academic excellence and equipping students with the knowledge and skills they need to thrive in college, careers, and life.”

Both recognitions highlight schools that excel in AP STEM coursework. To receive the AP STEM honor school accolade, schools must administer at least five exams in each of the four separate AP STEM courses, math, science and computer science, with a minimum of 25 total exams administered. Only schools that have at least 50% of all AP STEM exams earning scores of 3 or higher are eligible for the AP STEM Achievement School recognition.

“Advanced Placement courses allow students the opportunities to build a strong academic foundation and earn college credit while in high school,” said CHS Principal Ian Lyle. “Our AP STEM teachers work tirelessly to engage students and prepare them to succeed. Recognitions like this would not be possible without the dedication of our students and teachers.”

Carrollton High School offers a total of 20 Advanced Placement courses, including the classes recognized for the STEM focus: Statistics, Environmental Science, Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science (A), Computer Science Principles and Physics. Other AP course offerings are Government, World History, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, U.S. History, Language, Literature, Art, Music, Psychology, and Human Geography. In addition to the AP offerings, CHS implemented the International Baccalaureate program in 2012, another route students can pursue to ensure academic rigor through more than a dozen more course offerings.
