Man who shot to death nephew at 2017 family gathering has been charged with aggravated assault after allegedly strangling deceased nephew’s wife

A 59-year old Bowdon man charged in the Thanksgiving 2017 shooting death of his nephew at a family gathering in Whitesburg – now faces an aggravated assault charge after he allegedly choked his deceased relative’s widow inside a local restaurant a few days ago.

According to the preliminary report provided by the Carrollton Police Department: On 11/01/2024 at approximately 8:10pm, officers responded to 1210 Maple Street / Grand Hacienda about a fight in progress.

The alleged victim told police that a dispute had occurred because” Jacky Cline had murdered her husband approximately seven years ago and that this was the first time she had seen him since.”

On November 25, 2017 Cline was charged with malice murder after it was determined that he shot and killed 29-year old Nicholas Reid Madden.

Court documents state that Cline and Nicholas were in a physical altercation after consuming alcohol. Witnesses said there had been a rumor involving a family member, but no one witnessed the event that led to the death of the victim.

Nicholas allegedly confronted Cline about the rumor, which Cline denied, and that a fight then started. Cline told officers that he was headbutted by Nicholas. Cline told investigators he retreated toward his vehicle at the front of the house, but that Nicholas grabbed him and pulled him out of the car.

Cline told officers that during that struggle his gun was accidentally fired, though he was not sure if it was fired by him or by Nicholas during the struggle.

In February of 2019, the District Attorney’s Office requested the court to enter nolle prosequi as to the case for insufficient evidence to be proved beyond a reasonable doubt. The case was dismissed.

This past Friday, Cline was charged with aggravated assault after he allegedly strangled 37-year old Alicia Madden.

Madden told police that she and a female friend were eating; then, decided to use the restroom when they saw Jacky sitting at the second table from the door with a female. The woman stated that she had gotten very emotional about seeing Jacky and that when she saw him, she immediately confronted him. She said that she began yelling at Jacky and was loudly yelling that he had murdered her husband. She claims that Jacky stood up and grabbed her by the throat with both hands and began strangling her; adding, that Jacky continued strangling her hard and that she was not able to breathe.

According to Alicia, soon after, a group of male subjects sitting nearby stood up and separated the two individuals.

Police say Alicia had visible bruises and red marks on her throat area that appeared to be in the shape of a large set of hands.

Cline disputed the woman’s account of events to police.

He said he had been sitting inside Hacienda Grande and was eating dinner with his wife. He claimed that he did not see Alicia at all and that if he “had seen her, he would have left, as they have a long history.”

Cline claimed the woman approached him and threw a glass cup which struck his head. Cline said that he then got up and grabbed Alicia by the throat with both hands “to get her off of him” and “to get her away from him.”

Cline stated that during this dispute, the woman was screaming at him and calling him a murderer.

A witness stated that Alicia did throw a glass cup at Cline, which hit him in the head. This witness also said that Cline stood up, walked over to Madden, grabbed her by the throat, and strangled her.

Cline was charged with aggravated assault. He was released from the Carrol County Jail after meeting a $3,000 bond.

Madden was charged with Battery and released without bail.
