(Carroll County, GA) On March 27, 2019, Deputies with the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office responded to Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton for a six-month-old child that had suffered severe head injuries. She was soon after flown to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta for emergency surgery. During the course of the investigation, it was learned that the child had been thrown to the floor by her father, Timothy Hatmaker. Mr. Hatmaker initially attempted to mislead investigators as to how his daughter had incurred her injuries. After consulting with doctors at Children’s Healthcare, Investigators learned that the child had new and old rib fractures as well as the head trauma.
Â
After processing the scene, interviewing numerous witnesses/family members, and speaking with the medical professionals at Children’s Healthcare, Mr. Hatmaker was arrested on March 29, 2019. During his interview, he admitted to having thrown his six-month-old daughter onto the floor because she was crying, and he felt like he did not have a good connection with her. He also admitted to having picked her up before approximately two or three months earlier and squeezing her really hard while she was crying.
Â
Mr. Hatmaker was charged with aggravated assault, aggravated battery, and cruelty to children. The case agent for this investigation was Investigator Kimberly Biggs. Investigator Biggs had just recently joined the Crimes Against Persons Unit.
Â
On Thursday, September 9, 2021, at approximately 4:00 pm, Timothy Hatmaker entered a plea in front of Judge William Hamrick III and was sentenced to 30 years in prison with 20 years to be served and the remainder of that time to be spent on probation. We are happy to report the victim is doing well today.
