Carrollton Police have charged a 21-year old Powder Springs man with driving under the influence of an intoxicating substance and homicide by vehicle for his alleged involvement in a 2-vehicle crash on the Carrollton bypass that resulted in a fatality.

According to the police report: Wednesday September 25th at around 4:30am, a 2017 Ford Fiesta was traveling east on the Highway 166 bypass at its intersection with Newnan Road when a 2009 Honda Accord traveling south on Newnan Road struck the Fiesta with its front bumper.

The driver of the fiesta was wearing a seatbelt and his airbag deployed. He had to be extricated from his vehicle. The driver is identified as 66-year old Robert Huey of Franklin. He died from injuries sustained in the crash.

The driver of the Accord is identified as Ihunanya Oasis Onyekwere. He suffered minor injury and was taken to Tanner Medical. According to the police report he refused to give a statement. A blood alcohol test for Onyekwere is pending.

Onyekwere’s Linked-in profile claims he is a UWG student. However, UWG says he was last enrolled at UWG in Spring of 2024.

The crash remains under investigation.
