Sewage Overflow In Tallapoosa Second Time In A Week

For the second time this week, the water pollution control plant in Tallapoosa has reported an overflow and sewage spill. The one on Wednesday was likely caused by inclement weather. Plant manager Hollis Hale said lightning Wednesday morning struck the power pole that supplies electricity to the  lift station and cut feed to the pump station. 9,000 gallons of raw sewage overflowed from manholes and entered the lake behind the Big Oak RV Park on Georgia Highway 100.  Hollis advises residents to avoid this area for the time being. Signs are posted until further notice. Outgoing testing and monitoring has commenced and clean up measures are being taken.
