A Carroll County man is in police custody this evening after allegedly ramming his vehicle into a deputys parked Tahoe. The force from the impact was enough to deploy the deputys airbag and pushed the deputys vehicle into another deputys Dodge Charger, according to investigators. Both deputy vehicles were unoccupied at the time of the collision.
After 6:00 Thursday evening, deputies responded to an address in the 200 block of Garden Lake Drive, to a call regarding a potential domestic concern.
While deputies spoke to the resident who initially expressed the concerns, another of the homes residents, a male identified as 57-year Darrell Reed Shelnut approached the property in his vehicle. The vehicle came in at a high rate of speed. His vehicle struck the first deputys car, the investigator said. He got out of his vehicle then ran into the home. Deputies called for back up officers from the CCSO. During this time, the aggressor ran out the back of the home and into the woods.
Officers were able to apprehend an on-foot Shelnut a few miles down the road. He was taken to the Carroll County Jail without further incident.
A CCSOs Deputy tells WLBB Radio Thursday evening: Our office is thankful that no one was seriously injured during this incident and it was resolved fairly quickly.
Shelnut faces charges for two counts of aggravated assault.
