A new fire station in the City of Carrollton is expected to be complete by the end of this month, according to the City Manager, Tim Grizzard, this week.
The new station will replace the former Fire Station 22 that was located on Brumbelow Road. The new station will now be located on at the intersection of Lovvorn and Brumbelow.
The former station was struck by a tornado on April 3rd of last year, which caused some of the roof to be lifted from the building, a wall to collapse and a tree to fall at the front of the station.
The firefighters employed at Station 22 have been working out of Fire Station 21 since that time.
The station was originally planned to be completed by April, but due to numerous weather delays the opening date had been pushed back.
The estimated cost of the new station is $1.5 million. The city is still negotiating with the insurance company on the 2017 insurance claim. Officials
said proceeds received from the claim will offset the cost of the new fire station.
