Monica McCarley Named GHSA Outstanding Theatre Educator of the Year

[Bremen, GA] – The Georgia High School Association (GHSA) has proudly named Monica McCarley, an iconic figure in education and
theatre, as the 2024-25 Outstanding Theatre Educator of the Year. This esteemed accolade highlights McCarley’s extraordinary contributions to theatre education, her unwavering commitment to student success, and her remarkable legacy of excellence.

For over three decades, McCarley has transformed the lives of students through her passion for teaching and performing arts. Joining Bremen City Schools in 1996, she has dedicated 31 years to English and theatre education. Under her leadership, Bremen High School’s performing arts program has flourished, earning statewide acclaim and fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration, and achievement.

Over her storied career, McCarley’s students have earned four GHSA One Act State Championships and set a record with 10 consecutive GHSA Literary State Championships— an unprecedented achievement in all GHSA sports and activities. Her programs have also garnered more than 30 region championships, solidifying Bremen High School’s reputation as a powerhouse in fine arts.

“Monica McCarley embodies the essence of a transformative educator,” said Principal Tim Huff. “Her vision, talent, and mentorship have not only brought unparalleled success to Bremen’s theatre and literary programs but have also shaped the lives of countless students. This award is a testament to her dedication and passion for education.”

McCarley’s influence extends far beyond competition. Through her roles as Fine Arts Co-Director for Bremen City Schools and her ongoing contributions as a GHSA Fine Arts Committee and Literary Rules Committee member, she has elevated theatre education across the state. She has served as a GHSA adjudicator for one-act plays and literary competitions for a decade and as a Governor’s Honors Panelist for five years, demonstrating her expertise and dedication to excellence in the arts.

Despite retiring last year, McCarley returned part-time to continue coaching Bremen’s award-winning one-act play and literary programs. Her passion for nurturing young talent and her commitment to the arts remain as strong as ever.

Please join Bremen High School and the entire Bremen City Schools community in celebrating Monica McCarley’s incredible achievements and this well-deserved recognition.
