Both, Judge John Simpson of the Superior Court of Carroll County and Coweta Judicial Circuit District Attorney Herb Cranford have requested recusal from further trials involving the State of Georgia vs. former Georgia State Trooper AJ Scott.
The state has alleged that in 2015, ScottÂ’s patrol vehicle, while traveling 90 miles per hour without blue lights, hit another vehicle occupied by 4 teens.
Kylie Lindsey and Isabella Chinchilla were killed in the crash. Two other teens were injured.
Scott was indicted in 2017 on two counts of vehicular homicide in the second degree, two counts of serious injury by vehicle, violating oath of office, and one count each of speeding and reckless driving.
He stood trial in May of 2019, where his court appearance ended in a mistrial due to mishandling of evidence by the state.
It is likely that the case will be on hold until a new prosecutor is assigned by the Attorney General. Then case files will transfer to the new prosecutor for review and the case will be docketed with a new judge.
