Haralson County is taking great pride in a high school senior everyone believes will be the first student from Haralson County High School to attend the prestigious Harvard University. Residents are going as far as opening up an account in her name at Synovus Bank to help with her initial expenses. Student Christina Gavazzi of Temple said she is amazed by the support of her community.
“It’s really great honestly and everyone is being really supportive. I really didn’t expect everyone to be as kind and great about it,” said Gavazzi.
She joked that she has wanted to go to Harvard since she was four years-old, after she saw the movie Legally Blonde, a comedy featuring Reese Witherspoon as a young woman who attends the institution.
The high school senior is in the running for valedictorian at Haralson High this year. She admitted this week that it is a stressful time right now as she wraps up her high school career and prepares for the next chapter.
Gavazzi continued, “I’m really excited because I feel like there is going to be a lot to do. I feel like there will be a lot of new opportunities that I will get to experience.”
Christina leaves for Harvard in August where she plans to study applied mathematics.
Christina is the daughter of Emily Gavazzi.
