The Haralson County Board of Commissioners this week approved the documents needed to finalize the purchase of a property that was once intended by an outside developer to be a landfill.
In August of this year, the BOC approved a settlement agreement and Purchase Contract that terminated litigation surrounding the attempt to site a solid waste landfill on a property east of Tallapoosa and north of I-20.
The county has since stated their intention to market the property for an industrial park.
The transaction is scheduled to close on Monday, October 30, 2023.
“I want to remind folks that one of the contract requirements is that no one affiliated with Solid Solutions (the previous owners of the majority of the property), including employees or investors, can build a landfill in the county,” Haralson County Chairman Ronnie Ridley told WLBB Radio Friday. “And– we had received a number of calls… and e-mails… from concerned citizens this week… that – for some reason thought the property could still become a landfill. I’ve assured them, that is not the case.”
