It will be August or maybe even September, before Haralson county residents will start to see work resulting from the funding collected through the countyÂ’s new transportation special purpose local option sales tax.
Haralson County Commission Chairman, Allen Poole said following voter approval last November, the additional penny tax was collected beginning in May. He estimated that by the end of this month, up to $400,000 may have been collected through the T-SPLOST. To start, the county is looking at paving some smaller roads.
“One mile of blacktop, my public works director has explained to me, is $130,000. We have been averaging about $130,000 to $132,000. So we are waiting on the July money to come in and with that we are looking at almost $400,000. We are looking to address some really short roads to let them know that we appreciate them voting for the T-SPLOST,” said Poole.
The county has not yet identified the short roads that will be the first to see the improvements.
