(Carrollton, Ga. – September 19, 2018) Carroll County School System is pleased to announce that the graduation rates recently released by the Georgia Department of Education are even higher than previously projected. All five high schools achieved a rate of 90% or higher, with Mount Zion High School topping the list at 96.74%, followed by Bowdon High School at 92.23%, Temple High School at 92.12%, Villa Rica High School at 91.35%, and Central High School at 90.08%. The district graduation rate for the 2017-2018 school year was 91.74%, which is the highest in the history of Carroll County School System.
Scott Cowart, Superintendent of Carroll County Schools stated, “Our graduation rates are a testament to the many students, teachers, and administrators who are working diligently every day to ensure success in the classroom. While these graduation rates are reason to celebrate, we remain committed to providing all of our students the opportunity to graduate and become enrolled, employed, or enlisted.”
Dr. Dana Harman, Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning added, “This is quite an accomplishment; Carroll County Schools is one of the few multi-high school districts in which all high schools have a graduation rate over 90%. Our students, teachers, administrators, and community members are working together to break through barriers so that more students graduate from high school fully prepared for the next phases of their lives. It is evidence of our commitment to all students and I am honored to be part of a premier school system.”
Carroll County School System currently has more than 15,000 students in 23 schools across the county. The district focuses on premier opportunities in academics, arts, and activities, as well as providing access to advanced technology to enhance the learning experience. Carroll County Schools also emphasizes offering students multiple pathways to graduation to give every student the opportunity to prepare for their future.
The district has strong partnerships with the University of West Georgia and West Georgia Technical College to offer students dual enrollment opportunities while attending high school. Carroll County students also have access to rigorous Advanced Placement classes and the option to earn an International Skills Diploma Seal. Additionally, the district has a long-standing partnership with Southwire to offer work-based training and skills through the 12 for Life program, as well as the option to gain real world experience in the field of engineering through the Southwire Engineering Academy (SWEA). The district also works with other local businesses such as Tanner Health System and Sugar Food Corporation to provide work-based learning internships as part of the Career Connections program. These partnerships are coupled with leadership development activities to give students the necessary tools to be college and career ready.
In addition to providing students opportunities through dual enrollment and work-based learning, Carroll County School System is the only district in Georgia to offer two College and Career Academy campuses, with a variety of award-winning program pathways, including engineering, healthcare science, information technology, agriculture, film and audio/visual.
“We are always seeking opportunities to connect classroom instruction with real world experience. Having multiple pathways to achieve success has proven to be effective in not only increasing graduation rates but also in ensuring our students are prepared for a globally competitive market,” said Cowart.
