Fire Fighters Work More Than 3 1/2 Hours To Contain Wildland Fire Threatening Two Structures

Bremen Fire Rescue Chief Jason Hurley said it took 19 firefighters to bring under control a wildland fire threatening 2 structures on Turner Mountain, off Summit Lane, late Wednesday.

According his report: At 9:23, Bremen Fire Rescue Engine 61, Truck 61, and 601 responded to a wildland fire threatening 2 structures on Turner Mountain, off Summit Ln. Bremen units were assisted by Haralson County Engines 7,9,, Battalion 1 and Rescue 1, Carroll County Engine 7, Battalion 2, and Brush 14 and 15. Georgia Forestry Commission also responded with two tractor plows.

High winds and steep terrain facilitated rapid fire spread, quickly growing the fire to approximately 5-7 acres in size.

Crews worked to contain the fire by 11:13, and ultimately plow a fire break, completely around the area and start extinguishing hot spots. The fire was called under control at 1:02 am.

Two homes were evacuated, and received no damage. There were no civilian injuries, one firefighter was treated at the scene for heat exhaustion.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation at this time.
