Community Foundation of West Georgia Announces the Renaming of the Church Improvement Grant in Honor of Mrs. Lurleen V. Holland

Carrollton, GA – The Community Foundation of West Georgia is honored to announce the renaming of the Church Improvement Grant to the Lurleen V. Holland Church Improvement Grant. This change comes as a tribute to Mrs. Lurleen Holland, whose generosity and heart to serve significantly impacted so many in our community.

Originally established by an anonymous donor in honor of Lurleen V. Holland, the Church Improvement Grant has always celebrated her selfless spirit and significant contributions to our community. In keeping with her wishes, her name graces this initiative posthumously, ensuring her legacy of kindness and generosity lives on to inspire future generations.

The purpose of the Church Improvement Fund is to provide grants for capital improvements to predominately African American churches in Carroll County, Georgia. Priority will be given to churches that have limited ability to raise funds above normal operating costs.

Kim Jones, President of the Community Foundation of West Georgia, expressed her gratitude and admiration for Mrs. Holland’s contributions: “Lurleen V. Holland was a pillar of generosity and foresight in our community. Renaming the Church Improvement Grant in her honor is a fitting tribute to her legacy and her profound impact on our community.”

The Foundation is now accepting applications for the newly named Lurleen V. Holland Church Improvement Grant. Churches within the West Georgia area are encouraged to apply, with the aim of continuing to enrich their congregations and extend their outreach and services within the community.

For more information about the grant or to submit an application, please visit the Community Foundation of West Georgia’s website www.cfwg.net or contact the Foundation directly.

Lurleen V. Holland, age 85, of Carrollton, GA died on February 19, 2024.
