CARROLLTON, GA —   The Georgia School Boards Association named Carrollton City Schools as the 2023 recipient of the Leading Edge Award for the RaLin Construction Academy at Carrollton High School.

The partnership between CHS and RaLin Academy began in 2019 and was the result of conversations between Ben Garrett, President of RaLin Construction and CCS Superintendent Dr. Mark Albertus. The two recognized the need to develop trade skills within the local future workforce.

“This collaborative initiative has been a source of great pride,” said Garrett. “Witnessing the dedication and hard work exhibited by the students has been inspiring.”

The hallmark of this program is its unique approach to education. Students have the opportunity to work on real job sites under the guidance of industry professionals.

The announcement was made during the GSBA/Georgia School Superintendents Association annual conference held Dec. 1.

The RaLin Construction Academy goes beyond readying students for careers in construction; it also provides them with skills essential for future workforce opportunities, whether they opt for the construction industry or related fields. This initiative acts as a crucial bridge, connecting the high school learning environment to concrete employment prospects or advanced education in the domain of construction management.

“Our district is dedicated to fostering meaningful collaborations with local businesses and industries within our community,” said CCS Superintendent Dr. Mark Albertus. “This proactive approach allows us to address the specific needs and challenges faced by our local workforce, ultimately benefiting both our students and the community at large. We are fortunate to have forged a distinctive partnership with RaLin Construction.”
