CHS AFJROTC Student’s Leadership Skills Soar

CARROLLTON, GA —  A Carrollton High School JROTC student who mentors fellow cadets as a flight instructor has completed the solo phase toward his own private pilot license – and he’s only a sophomore.

Aiden Momtahan, who has successfully flown countless hours in a commercial flight simulator, hopes to become a commercial airline pilot and will soon receive his private pilot license.

Lieutenant Colonel Mike Farr, Senior Aerospace Instructor at CHS, said the sophomore is one of the newest members of the AFJROTC leadership team and has been a wonderful addition to the program.

“Aiden is a remarkable young man and displays many of the qualities often sought in a leader of any age — he is a self-starter, mature, responsible, and delivers positive results regardless of the task.”

Farr said he was eager for Aiden to join AFJROTC primarily because of his success in the field of aviation. He has flown countless hours in a commercial flight simulator and has successfully completed the solo phase toward his private pilot license.

Aiden serves as the AFJROTC Flight Instructor, which Farr says is a prestigious position with a great deal of responsibility.

“I love having this leadership role because I get the chance to do encouraging things and work with others,” said Aiden. “For example, I get to train new cadets on the basics of flying and get them ready for their first solo.”

Aiden said his love for flying stems from his father who is a pilot.

“I knew I wanted to become a pilot when I took my first commercial flight to California when I was 10 years old,” he said. “My favorite thing about flying is traveling and seeing the world from above.”

In addition to his leadership role in AFJROTC, Aiden is completing his second year on the CHS precision riflery team where he holds the highest individual score of anyone on the team.

“Precision, accuracy, and patience coupled with the ability of self-reflection and self-improvement make him a success in the field of competitive shooting — these skills will be needed in every aspect of his career,” said Farr. “I firmly believe Aiden will achieve his goals in life, and I am excited to see all of the people he influences along the journey!”

As for his goals after high school, Aiden said he hopes to attend Auburn University’s School of Aviation.
