Carroll County Board of Commissioners vote to purchase 52.08+/- Acres of land located at 2011 Carrollton-Villa Rica Highway for an EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operations) Center during Special Called Meeting this week.
Two years ago, the Board of Commissioners committed funds to construct an Emergency Vehicle Operations Course to provide training for local law enforcement officers, firefighters, ambulance drivers, public works equipment drivers, and bus drivers to hone in on driving skills on specialized tracks. “This has been a personal project of mine to help these employees who work for Carroll County citizens every day and I am appreciative for the Commissioners support.” Chairman Michelle Morgan said in a statement. “The 52-acre site will be designed to practice quick and safe responses to emergency calls and while areas will replicate town and city block driving and parking. The track will be used for exercises such as lane changing, controlled braking, and more. Driving a fire truck or dump truck is much different than driving a personal vehicle, and this training facility will provide further training and opportunities for the men and women behind the wheel every day to learn the best skills needed to keep themselves and the public safe.” Chairman Morgan continued.
“I am grateful for the commitment of Chairman Michelle Morgan and the Board of Commissioners for recognizing how important emergency vehicle operations training is and coming together to purchase this piece of property for that purpose, this is a great thing for Carroll County and all who will utilize the facility.” Sheriff Terry Langley stated. “I would also like to recognize Sergeant Brian Finley for his hard work on researching what would best benefit Carroll County and what sites would be suitable for such a specialized training track.” Sheriff Langley continued.
Carroll County Fire Rescue Chief Chuck Barnwell stated, “We are very excited for the opportunities the new EVOC course will bring to the members of our department. This state-of-the-art facility will provide a safe environment for our personnel and keep our staff closer to home for continued driver training and education therefore getting to spend more time with their families.”
Chairman Morgan is ready to start laying the project out immediately and hopes to see the project come to fruition over the Summer months.
