This morning, drivers in Carroll County saw members of the Carroll County Fire Rescue and the Bremen Fire Department draping American flags over each of the bridges which pass over Interstate 20. The local first responders did this in remembrance of the tragic events of September 11 2001.
“Almost three thousand people lost their lives in the collapse of the Twin Towers. At that time 343 firefighters lost their lives in attempts to rescue, doing what they do every day. We like to memorialize that event by putting our fire engines in observance of all the lives that were lost on that day,” Carroll County’s Deputy Chief, Bud Benefield told WLBB Radio. “We’ll have a firefighter that will stand with the engine and hold the flag. As Americans we always need to remember the price of freedom and all of those who paid the price to help us enjoy our freedom.”
Fire fighters paid tribute from all 11 overpasses in Carroll County this morning.
