Carroll County Drug Court Holds Graduation For Five Participants With Special Guest Speaker Retired Atlanta Braves Player Otis Nixon

CARROLLTON, GEORGIA – DECEMBER 6, 2019

(written by: attorney, Preston Haliburton)

The Otis Nixon Foundation and Carroll County Drug Court team up for an outreach initiative to help fight the opioid epidemic in the West Georgia Area.

Judge Dusty Hightower and Preston Haliburton, Carrollton attorney for the Otis Nixon Foundation, felt that the “Otis Story” of overcoming addiction could offer valuable help to those trying to overcome addiction and going through the accountability courts. The Carroll County Drug Court lead by Honorable Dusty Hightower looks for unique ways to reach those suffering from addiction.

Otis will be speaking to Judge HightowerÂ’s new graduates on December 6 at 9:00 am in Superior Court Room C at the Carroll County Courthouse.

“I look forward to working in the West Georgia Area with Judge Hightower and other judges to tell my story. If I can save one person’s life, I will have fulfilled a goal more valuable to me than winning a World Series,” Nixon said. ” I am excited to provide copies of my book for the successful graduates of Judge Hightower’s program. It’s my hope they use this book and faith in God to overcome addiction. Sometimes the guy that made the most mistakes has the most wisdom in the room to help others avoid the same pitfalls. I am grateful Judge Hightower is one of the first judges in Georgia to utilize my story and my program.”

The Carroll County Drug Treatment Court operates in the Circuit Court for Carroll County and has been specifically designed and staffed to supervise non-violent, drug dependent defendants who have been referred to a comprehensive and judicially monitored program.
