On Thursday, June10, 2021, at 8:45 PM, deputies were dispatched to Westbrook Road in Bremen in reference to a male with gunshot wounds. Deputies arrived on scene and the victim, Deon McFarling, 36 years old, was located in a yard with multiple gunshot wounds. Although seriously injured, the victim was able to name the shooter.

A warrant for Aggravated Assault was secured against David James Roper, 35 years old, and a search warrant was secured for his residence at 193 Westbrook Road. Deputies attempted to make contact with David Roper but he barricaded himself in the house. Georgia State Patrol SWAT was requested by Sheriff Stacy Williams and came to the scene.

After a few hour standoff, David Roper surrendered to Law Enforcement. David Roper is also facing charges of Possession of Firearm by Convicted Felon.

The HCSO expressed appreciation to the Georgia State Patrol SWAT Unit, Haralson Paulding Drug Task Force, Bremen Police Department, Haralson County Fire Department and Carrollton Fire Department Hazmat team for their assistance.

“Our job is to keep the citizens of our county safe and tonight we were able to keep the scene contained and took the offender into custody,” Sheriff Stacy Williams said. “I appreciate all of the support from the citizens these last few months, and I hope we will continue to work together to make Haralson County safer for everyone.”
