A former state house representative will be the next district 30 state senator – after collecting approximately 59-percent of the 7700 ballots cast in Tuesday’s special election to replace Mike Dugan.
Republican Tim Bearden received more than 45-hundred votes cast that were cast in portions of/ or all of Haralson, Carroll, Paulding, and Douglas counties over the last three weeks.
Democrat Ashley Godwin came in second with 17-percent of the total tally; followed by Republican Robert Smith with 13-percent; and, Republican Renae Bell with 11-percent.
Bearden could join the 2024 legislative session as soon as the vote is certified; possibly by the end of this week.
