West Georgia residents and some area businesses will take part in the American Cancer SocietyÂ’s Relay for Life event at CarrolltonÂ’s Grisham Stadium this evening into Saturday.
Community members will come together to remember loved ones lost, honor survivors of all cancers, and raise money to help the American Cancer Society. Teams are asked to have a member on the track at all times to signify that cancer never sleeps.
Donna A. Holder of Carrollton is participating to honor her family:
“My husband has been a cancer survivor twice and my mom and dad have pancreas cancer. So I’m right in the middle and I want to do all I can. ”
Holder encourages west Georgia residents to participate in the event, either through a financial donation or joining a team and taking a few laps.
“Donate your time to what is important and if you don’t donate time to cancer because it might one day affect you,” said Holder.
The West Georgia Relay for Life event features an opening ceremony which honors everyone whoÂ’s been affected by cancer and everyone who has contributed to the success of this yearÂ’s relay season. It is followed by the survivor and caregiver walk, the Luminaria Ceremony, and a closing ceremony.
