PEACHTREE CITY – The National Weather Service (NWS) held their weekly briefing [Thursday] with a special emphasis on the weather impacts forecast for this weekend. A powerful storm system with a strong cold front will sweep across the area Friday afternoon and evening into Saturday bringing multiple weather hazards and impacts to east Alabama and north and central Georgia. These impacts include:
- Strong to severe storms possible for parts of central Alabama and central Georgia Friday afternoon and Friday night
- Heavy rain potential for much of north/central Alabama and north/central Georgia Friday afternoon through early Saturday
- Rain mixing with and then changing briefly to snow across parts of north Alabama and north Georgia late Friday night into Saturday morning
- Windy conditions Friday night into Saturday with sustained winds 25-35 mph with gusts up to 45-50 mph at times
- Very cold temperatures Saturday into Sunday morning
- Teens and 20’s for lows Saturday night with wind chills dropping to near 10 degrees
