Villa Rica Looks to Upgrade Water Plant

The City of Villa Rica is looking to upgrade its water treatment plant on North Van Wert Road. The conventional plant, which was built in 1966, is facing many issues including a lack of water production according to Public Works Director Pete Zorbanos.

The water plant was put on notice by the states Environmental Protection Division last November and had a follow up sanitary survey this February.

“The issues that we have right now is ,hydraulically, we cannot produce 1.5 million gallons a day for our permit,” said Zarbanos. “We are only at about 1.2 million gallons which is a daily loss of 250,000 gallons.”

Zorbanos said the plants needs updates on many of the current systems including water pumps that were originally installed 52 years ago.
The council will vote on whether to fund improvements, starting with engineering services from Carter and Sloop Engineers that boast a $446,200 price tag.
