Two Men in Critical Condition Following Attack By Man on ATV

On Sunday, September 28, 2025, at 12 minutes after midnight, Deputies were dispatched to Eaves Bridge Road and Garner Road in reference to a gunshot wound. Deputies arrived and found two males, Austin Glover, who was unconscious with a gunshot wound to the neck and Cameron Callahan, who was able to speak at first, but started to lose consciousness from an apparent head injury. As first responders worked to stabilize the victims, they were able to find out that the young men had been riding around on dirt roads when a male on an ATV started chasing them and fired one shot. Deputies also learned that the two males had hidden in the woods for a while to get away from the shooter. A short time later, they went to leave the area, but the driver of the ATV was blocking the road a little further up and fired more shots which struck the driver of the pickup and caused him to run off the road and hit a tree. Investigators were called to the scene to take over the investigation.

During the investigation, a deputy a short distance away observed an ATV parked down a small side road. Deputies approached the ATV and found the suspect, Omar Braderick Bennett, who surrendered to deputies without incident. They were able to recover the firearm used in the shooting.

Investigators took over the scene and processed the entire area and recovered multiple items of evidence. Both the ATV and the truck were towed for extra processing. Bennett was later interviewed by investigators, and he did admit that he fired shots at the victims. Bennett stated that when he saw the vehicle, he was upset by them tearing up the roads and he also thought it was a friend’s stolen vehicle. Bennett claimed that after they ran into the woods, he took a photograph of the vehicle to verify it was the suspected stolen vehicle, and he said he was told yes. Bennett stated that he then blocked the road so they could not leave and claims that he shot in the air, not at the truck. The truck has been checked, and it is the legal property of the shooting victim, Austin Glover. Currently, the two victims are still in critical condition at a trauma center.

“You cannot take the law into your own hands,” states Sheriff Stacy Williams. “What makes this case even worse, is that the offender waited on these boys, fired his weapon from the roadway and then left those boys there and did not even call 911 at that point to help them. If you believe that a crime is being committed, just call 911 and let us handle it. A possible stolen truck or someone being upset should never cost another person their life. Please pray for the recovery of these two young men and their families.”

Omar Braderick Bennett, a 41-year-old W/M out of Buchanan GA is facing multiple charges that include Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Battery and more. As this case is still a very active investigation, the full list of charges is not yet ready.
