Buffalo Creek Garden featured in Video
Each month, Lauren Goble, Farm Bureau Education Programs Coordinator and her photographer/videographer, Jennifer create an Ag in the Classroom book of the Month online resource. When the book for April was selected – “The Chalk Garden,” by Sally Anne Garland, Lauren began looking for gardens that incorporated art in their space. She happened upon the Buffalo Creek Garden, managed by the Carroll County Master Gardener volunteers, during her search.
If you would like to see the video, hear the story of “The Chalk Garden”, and see the other resources, go to the following website, scroll down to the April book – “The Chalk Garden” and click on the links within the page.

They’re back: Watching out for Yellow-Legged Hornets
Spring’s arrival signals not only blooming flowers but also the emergence of a serious threat to Georgia’s pollinators: the invasive Yellow-legged Hornet. The Georgia Department of Agriculture (GDA) urges residents to be vigilant in spotting embryo nests – the small, initial nests built by new queens before they establish larger colonies.
In this issue, Mike Evans, GDA Plant Protection Division director, explained that finding and destroying embryo nests are key to reducing Yellow-Legged Hornets in number and activity. His team has placed more traps along Georgia’s coast and gotten them out early to catch more queens.
If you believe you’ve discovered an embryo nest, do not attempt to remove it yourself. Contact the GDA Plant Protection Division at yellow.legged.hornet@agr.georgia.gov or a licensed pest management professional to ensure the queen is properly eradicated.
You can also report Yellow-Legged Hornet sightings by using the online reporting form here.

Georgia Aquaculture Conference
April 18 at the Georgia Center in Athens.
The event is bringing together aquaculture researchers, policymakers, farmers, and industry leaders from across the state to talk about how sustainable aquaculture—both freshwater and saltwater—is growing in Georgia and what it means for the state’s economy and food systems.
Hosted by UGA Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant, alongside the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources, the conference will cover topics like emerging aquaculture opportunities, research, regulations, financing, and workforce development.
With seafood demand on the rise and increased interest in local, sustainable food systems, aquaculture is becoming an important part of Georgia’s economic and environmental future—and UGA is playing a key role in making that happen.
You can find more details in the official press release here: https://gacoast.uga.edu/ga-sustainable-aquaculture-conference/
