Suspect in Attempted Child Abduction in Custody, Held Without Bond

Carroll County, GA – On Friday, July 4, 2025, at approximately 4:50 p.m., deputies with the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on Old Highway 27 South in Roopville following a report of an attempted child abduction.

While en route, deputies were advised that the suspect, a white male with blonde hair, wearing jeans and a t-shirt, had fled the scene on foot. Before fleeing, the suspect reportedly approached a nearby elderly resident and asked if he could enter the home. When access was denied, he was confronted by the child’s parents and ran from the area.

A witness followed the suspect in a vehicle as he ran toward the roundabout in Roopville and into a wooded area near the baseball fields at Roopville Elementary School. There, the suspect was detained by a citizen until law enforcement arrived. Deputies took him into custody and identified him as Nicholas Gosdin.

According to multiple witnesses, including the victim’s parents, the 10-year-old female victim had been sitting on the front porch of her home when Gosdin approached and made physical contact. The victim later told investigators that Gosdin initiated a conversation about construction materials in an apparent attempt to lure her off the porch. When she refused, he allegedly grabbed both of her arms and attempted to restrain her. The child was able to break free and run inside the home to alert her family, prompting their swift response.

Neither the victim nor any witnesses were familiar with Gosdin or knew why he was in the area.

Gosdin was transported to the Carroll County Jail and charged with Simple Battery, Cruelty to Children, False Imprisonment, and Kidnapping.

He appeared before a magistrate judge on Monday, July 7, 2025, and was denied bond.

Due to the sensitive nature of this case and to protect the identity of the minor victim, no further information about the child will be released at this time.

Anyone who may have seen Gosdin in the area or who has video footage, such as home surveillance or doorbell cameras, is urged to contact Investigator Ametrice Jackson at 770-830-5916 or via email at ajackson@carrollsheriffga.gov.

This case remains under active investigation by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division.
