On 09-30-21 Officer Alicia Kovacevic and Officer Carol Collett with the Villa Rica Police Department responded to the DayÂ’s Inn on Commerce Drive to a report of a possible carjacking. When they arrived hotel guests directed them to the rear of the hotel where they discovered a man hiding in the bushes. The man was identified as Charles Howard Jones, 39 years old, from Villa Rica.
After detaining Jones, the officers discovered that Jones had attempted to enter a vehicle that was occupied by a female by pulling on the door. The female had locked the door and Jones was unable to enter. Jones then went to another vehicle where a female was in the passenger seat. Jones entered the vehicle and attempted to drive away with the female passenger still inside. Jones did abandon the vehicle with hotel guests chasing him on foot to where the officers found him.
As the officers continued the investigation it was discovered that Jones had groped a 16 years old female inside the hotel the previous night. Jones was arrested and charged with Hijacking of a Motor Vehicle, Kidnapping, and Sexual Battery. While being fingerprinted at the police department, Jones further attempted to grope Officer Kovacevic. Jones was then taken to the Carroll Co Jail.
