Start Of School Year Delayed For Carroll County Schools

The Carroll County Schools District on Tuesday announced plans for students to return to the classroom for the 2020-2021 school year on August tenth instead of the previously set date of August the fourth.

District Superintendent Scott Cowart said the delay in starting the school year will give educators and staff additional time to prepare for challenges and protocols associated with coronavirus concerns.

Also, the schools district does not plan to require students or educators to wear masks when school begins in August, however they say wearing a mask is “strongly encouraged” in settings in which 6-foot social distancing is unable to be maintained.

Schools will provide a mask for students who prefer to wear one but do not have access to one.

Virtual learning will be available as an option for parents and students who have concerns about the in-person environment.
