Carroll County Commission Chairman, Marty Smith, on Tuesday, addressed citizens of Temple in a town hall meeting hosted by District Three Commissioner Tommy Lee. With recent federal and state tax cuts, Smith discussed Carroll CountyÂ’s financial health.
 “We have a formal audit done every year. Up until last year we were $2.5 million short in revenue,” said Smith. “Carroll County is healthy. We have been able to put money back into our reserves and our bond rating got an AA2, which is extremely good. Our strength is good financially.”
Smith also addressed possible millage increase and said that the commissions goal is to avoid rate increases and instead look to a county wide special local option sales tax.
 “They have devised a T-SPLOST where you don’t have to do it in a region. You can do it county wide and it’s the same way that any SPLOST works. It is the one penny for anyone passing through,” said Smith. “We are going to look at adopting that as the next revenue source.”
 Budget discussions for the county will begin soon with Carroll County’s fiscal year ending on June 30th.
