Carroll County’s new transit service will begin operation on the second of July. But before that date, interested citizens will be introduced to the “Carroll Connection” service during a ride-a-long day this Sunday.
A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held next to the Carroll County Courthouse parking deck at 12:45 pm. Following is a tour schedule from 1:30 to 3:00 pm, which will stop at various locations in the county: Bowdon, Carrollton, Mt. Zion, Roopville, Temple and Villa Rica.
“Carroll County is bringing a rural transit program. It is a door to door service. It is not bus stops. People can start calling and booking this transportation; it is three dollars each way,” said Carroll County’s District Four Commissioner, Michelle Morgan, who serves as the county’s transit committee chairman.
Morgan says her committee deemed it the right choice for the future of the county: “Carroll County formed a task force several years ago to study whether the county needed rural transit. Each commissioner appointed someone from their district on this committee and the committee studied and came back to the commissioners. They said yes, this was a program that Carroll County needed. This is a way for citizens of Carroll County to have affordable transportation to doctor’s appointments, the grocery store, work or school.”
The Carroll County Board of Commissioners is partnering with the Three Rivers Regional Commission in offering the service. It is primarily federally funded through a rural transportation grant that requires a local match. Carroll countyÂ’s anticipated annual cost will be about $35,000.
