A 23-year old Memphis, Tennessee man was killed early Saturday when the vehicle he was a passenger crashed on Interstate-20 in Carroll County.
According to Georgia State Patrol- Public Information Officer, Franka Young:
At approximately 1:35 a.m., Haralson 911 advised that their units were chasing a vehicle that had traveled into Georgia after fleeing from Cleburne County, Alabama units. They requested GSP assistance. A Trooper joined the pursuit, and became primary. The pursuit continued into Carroll County on Interstate 20, and the Trooper performed a PIT maneuver at 20E MM22 (between Temple and Villa Rica). Troop D Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT) is conducting a follow-up investigation.
Chad Cook of Bowdon heard the description of the pursuit over a police scanner. Cook said vehicles involved in the pursuit reached speeds of 130 mph.
The deceased has been identified as Piera L. Jones, 23 YOA male subject from Memphis, Tennessee.
Mr. Jones was the rear seat passenger in the fleeing vehicle.
Young has identified the driver as Mr. Renarado E. Townsend, age 22. The front seat passenger has been identified as Mr. Ulrich F Brooks, Jr., age 26. Both subjects are from Memphis, Tennessee.
Both are being treated at Grady in Atlanta.
