Muldoon named principal at Villa Rica Middle School

Current Bay Springs Middle School Assistant Principal Kevin Muldoon has been named principal at Villa Rica Middle School beginning January 1 after a vote by the Carroll County Board of Education.

Muldoon taught and coached for 12 years at Villa Rica Middle before serving as an administrator in Bartow County Schools for eight years. He served as an assistant principal at the elementary, middle and high school levels during his stint in Bartow. Muldoon returned to Carroll County in 2023 to serve as assistant principal at Bay Springs.

“I am very pleased to have such an experienced leader as principal at Villa Rica Middle,” Superintendent Scott Cowart said. “Mr. Muldoon taught at Villa Rica Middle and understands the community and what ‘We Are VR’ means. Having him back at Bay Springs for the last two years sets up a seamless transition to his new role at Villa Rica Middle where I’m confident he will lead a great team to positively change lives every day.”

Muldoon holds a bachelor’s degree in middle grades education from the University of West Georgia, a master’s degree in instructional leadership from Jacksonville State University and a specialist degree in teaching and leadership from Piedmont College.

“Villa Rica Middle is the place where I started my career in education and served proudly as a teacher for 12 years,” Muldoon said. “We have a long tradition of academics, athletics, creativity, and a commitment to student success, and I am thrilled to be back with my Wildcat family! My goal as principal is to build on our school’s strengths by fostering a positive, inclusive environment where every student feels valued and inspired to reach their full potential.”

Muldoon and his wife Amy have an adult daughter who lives in Austria and a son who is a high school senior.

“Middle school is a pivotal time in a young person’s life, and I take seriously the responsibility to support our students academically, socially, and emotionally,” Muldoon said. “I look forward to working with our talented teachers, dedicated staff, and supportive families to ensure our students are prepared not only for high school but also for life as curious, confident, and compassionate individuals.”

Muldoon replaces previous VRMS Principal Samantha Green who has been named Coordinator of Alternative Programs for the district.

Bowdon Elementary School’s new assistant principal Nikki Ethridge also begins in January after approval at the BOE’s November meeting.
