Mariah Moses Named West Georgia Tech’s 2024 EAGLE Winner

CARROLLTON, GA – West Georgia Technical College (WGTC) has named Mariah Moses of Newnan as its 2024 Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education (EAGLE) winner. Moses will represent West Georgia Technical College at the Dinah Culbreath Wayne EAGLE Leadership Institute March 25-27, 2024.

The Technical College System of Georgia through its Office of Adult Education sponsors the annual Dinah Culbreath Wayne Exceptional Adult in Georgia in Literacy Education (EAGLE) Leadership Institute. The Leadership Institute recognizes and honors those students who have demonstrated superior achievement in adult education classes and programs.

Moses has faced debilitating disabilities throughout her life and doubted her ability to complete her education. Inspired by her brother’s GED achievement at WGTC, and with the help of her grandmother, Moses enrolled in WGTC’s Adult Education program. Despite not considering college initially, earning her high school equivalency credential (HSE) boosted her confidence. Moses is now enrolled in WGTC’s phlebotomy program, working towards her goal of becoming a certified phlebotomist.

“I enrolled in the Adult Education program with one goal in mind, to earn my HSE,” Moses said. “I earned so much more than an education. I found my goals, my aspirations, my purpose.”

EAGLE is the first statewide program in the nation that recognizes and rewards excellence among students enrolled in adult education programs. This student recognition program is designed to create greater awareness of educational opportunities that are available in local communities across the state and to foster greater involvement in lifelong learning pursuits.

“Mariah overcame many obstacles in her life to get where she is today,” said Rebecca Wheeler, Dean of Adult Education. “Her story is inspiring and will help others take that first step necessary for changing and improving their lives by earning their HSE. We are proud to have her represent WGTC’s Adult Education program at the upcoming Leadership Institute.”
