Haralson County, GA — Last week, a Haralson County Grand Jury convened in the Historic Courthouse for the first time in 53 years. Due to increased court volume and limited space in the current courthouse, the decision was made to hold the session in the historic building located in downtown Buchanan.
While other courts have occasionally utilized the second-floor courtroom in recent years, this marks the first official grand jury session conducted there since the current courthouse was constructed in 1972.
The Haralson County Board of Commissioners authorized the use of the Historic Courthouse by resolution, citing building layout and space needs. The Grand Jury extended appreciation to the Buchanan Library and the Haralson County Historical Society for their support and cooperation in making the historic venue available.
District Attorney Jaeson Smith expressed gratitude for the opportunity, stating:
“It was an absolute honor to oversee this historic court session. A great deal of preparation went into making this happen. Transporting and connecting computers, printers, and other necessary court equipment required significant effort, but everything went very smoothly. I want to personally thank the library staff and the Historical Society for rolling out the red carpet for us.”
