(Roopville, Carroll County, GA) – At the request of the Georgia State Patrol, GBI agents are investigating an officer involved shooting in Roopville, Carroll County, Georgia. Jason Scott Fletcher, age 51, of Hogansville, Heard County, Georgia, was shot and killed. No officers were injured in this incident.
The preliminary information indicates around 3:00 p.m., deputies with the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office were investigating complaints of mail thefts near the 500 block of Little New York Road, Carrollton. Deputies encountered Fletcher driving a car and attempted to stop him. Fletcher refused to stop, and a chase began. The chase continued toward the Roopville area at which time deputies asked the Georgia State Patrol for assistance. A Georgia State Trooper responded to the area and attempted to deploy stop sticks at the intersection of Highway 5 and Banks Circle in Roopville, in an attempt to stop Fletcher. Fletcher swerved his vehicle and attempted to hit the Trooper. The Trooper fired his handgun at Fletcher, hitting Fletcher.
First aid was provided on the scene. Fletcher was taken by ambulance to Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton where he died from his injuries.

The GBI will conduct an independent investigation. Once complete, the case file will be given to the Coweta Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review.
