Future History Museum Could Be Housed in Lake Carroll Log Cabin

The Carroll County Historical Society have asked Carrollton city government to house a historical museum inside the log cabin next to Lake Carroll.

The structure was abandoned earlier this year when the office of Carrollton Area Convention and VisitorÂ’s Bureau Director Jonathan Dorsey was moved into the Train Depot off Bradley Street. The cabin is temporarily being used as a small childrenÂ’s library during an on-going renovation project at the Neva Lomason Memorial Library.

When all the books are returned to Neva Lomason– hopefully later this year– Historical Society President Scott Eldred is requesting that the city will consider the land-mark for historical society use:

“When they are through with it, we are looking for a place for a little museum. Our facility at the Perry House doesn’t have good parking or a handicap ramp and we don’t have room to display anything in the house. So we are looking for a place to have a museum so we can display some of the things that we have.”

CACVB Director Jonathon Dorsey earlier this year told WLBB that the cabin was initially built in the late 1960Â’s as a part of the West Georgia Fair. It was used for various displays as well as a concession stand.

He said once the Fair Grounds moved down the street, the log cabin was rolled down the hill to its current location and became a city wide event center for civic meetings and other special occasions. The Convention and VisitorÂ’s Bureau used it as a home-base for 15 years.
