Fire In Villa Rica Ruled ‘Accidental In Nature’

CARROLL COUNTY, GA — On Thursday, June 5, 2025, at approximately 8:30 p.m., a fire was reported at Georgia Arms, an ammunition manufacturing and retail facility located at 15 East Industrial Court in Villa Rica.

At 8:35 p.m., Carroll County 911 received multiple calls reporting a loud explosion and visible flames in the area. At 8:38 p.m., Carroll County Fire Rescue was dispatched to the scene for a possible structure fire involving hazardous materials.

Upon arrival at 8:40 p.m., Engine 9 and Truck 9 confirmed an active fire in the facility’s secured gunpowder storage building. Fire personnel immediately initiated an aggressive suppression effort while additional crews established a water supply from a nearby hydrant. Firefighting operations successfully brought the blaze under control by 8:54 p.m.

Shortly after 9:00 p.m., crews transitioned to the salvage and overhaul phase, with support from Villa Rica Public Works, to address remaining hot spots and ensure the fire was fully extinguished. Adjacent properties and businesses were checked for damage or potential secondary fires, and none were reported.

Carroll County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) responded to the scene to provide additional support and coordinate with state and local partners. The Villa Rica Police Department provided critical assistance with traffic control and scene security.

The Carroll County Fire Marshal’s Office led the investigation into the cause of the fire, with support from the Georgia State Fire Marshal’s Office Hazmat Division. The investigation determined that the fire originated in the secured bulk gunpowder magazine and was accidental in nature. No injuries occurred, and no damage was reported to nearby businesses or buildings.

Carroll County Fire Rescue extends its deepest appreciation to the Villa Rica Police Department, Villa Rica Public Works, Carroll County EMA, the Georgia State Patrol, and the Georgia State Fire Marshal’s Office for their cooperation, professionalism, and timely response during this incident.
