Newly appointed Coweta Circuit District Attorney, Herb Cranford joined WLBBÂ’s Community Voice program, on Friday, to discuss the large judicial circuit that he now presides over. The circuit currently oversees 5 counties: Carroll, Coweta, Heard, Meriwether and Troup. As the area grows, Cranford recognizes the possibility of splitting the district in the future.
“I’m looking into that. I am in the process of running the numbers. If it were broken up, would we get more personnel? I think, necessarily we would get more state paid personnel, which would be a relief financially for the counties,” said Cranford.
Cranford said the state legislature and the Governor would make the final decision about splitting districts.
Cranford will appear on the November ballot in a special election for the District AttorneyÂ’s position.
