Carrollton City officials say the road-work phase of what has become known as the Bankhead Beautification Project could begin as early as this week. When the full-project is complete, officials said they hope adjustments will transform the area into a zone of new businesses easily accessible by pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists.
The project will affect a 2,200-foot section of Bankhead Highway from Thomas Newell Way to Cedar Street. Part of the project will see the roadway narrowed from its current width of five lanes to three, including a center turn lane. It will also add pedestrian and landscaping improvements.
Drivers should expect to see contractors and equipment in the area. They can also expect to see minor delays during this initial phase.
