Family and friends of the 14-year old Bremen High School student who suffered severe burns over the weekend, are reaching out through social media to express gratitude for the prayers, hundreds of visitors, and financial support received in the last couple of days.
Mayson McKinzie remains in an Atlanta hospital and has reportedly gone through the first surgery of his long road to recovery.
The biggest online attempt to raise money for the McKenzie family to cover medical bills and other associated costs, was started by classmate and good friend, 15-year old Tucker Reno and his family. The Go Fund Me page listed under MaysonÂ’s name had raised close to $15,000 in less than two days.
Tucker visited Mayson in the hospital late Monday.
He said the response to his online request has been amazing, but he says he knew Bremen and west Georgia would step up for this family.
”Bremen is just a very close community and cares a lot about Mayson,” commented Reno. “We want to personally thank everyone that has shown support for the McKenzie family throught the Go Fund Me or T-shirt and arm band fundraiser. Mayson’s family is overwhelmed and beyond thankful for the support. It is great to be a Blue Devil. Mayson Strong.”
Mayson Strong T-shirts and arm bands have been developed to raise money for the McKinzie family. You can find those online through the Jade-Natalie Smith Facebook page.
