CHS STUDENTS OUTPERFORM NATION AND STATE ON SAT

CARROLLTON, GA — Carrollton High School students have once again topped the national and state average in SAT performance while encouraging high turnout in the number of participants taking the popular college entrance exam. Over the last three years, CHS has increased overall performance and boasts the highest percentage of test takers, 10% or greater, compared to any other school in Carroll County.

Carrollton’s Class of 2025 achieved impressive results on the SAT, with a mean total score of 1039, 43 points higher than the national average of 996. Students also surpassed national averages in both Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (ERW) and math, earning mean scores of 536 and 503, respectively, compared to the national averages of 508 and 488. Whereas Georgia’s public-school class of 2025 recorded a mean score of 526 on the ERW portion of the assessment and a mean score of 502 on the math portion.

Impressive performance coupled with strong participation highlights the school’s commitment to academic success and college readiness.

“We are proud of our students’ performance, but just as proud of the high number of kids who chose to take the test,” said CHS Principal Ian Lyle. “Expanding opportunities for students to have access to testing is essential for effectively supporting their academic journey. I’m grateful to our teachers and counseling department for emphasizing the importance of college readiness and for their dedication to ensuring our students achieve their college and career aspirations.”

Six years ago, CHS began offering students the option to take the test during regular school hours. The school offers this option once in the fall and once in the spring.

“As educators, it is our responsibility to help students overcome obstacles to be successful. Transportation, extracurricular schedules, and other conflicts should not prevent students from being able to take a test that can open many doors for them,” said CHS Assistant Principal Heather Elliott. “We can support more students in their college and career planning, regardless of their circumstances, by offering the SAT during the school day.”

Additionally, CHS offers an SAT prep course during school hours where students can work on their test-taking skills.

“Providing an SAT prep course available to students on our campus is an important way we support student growth and achievement,” said Elliott.
