CHS Graduates Largest IB Cohort Since Start Of Program

CARROLLTON, GA—Carrollton High School marked a significant achievement this year by graduating its largest-ever International Baccalaureate (IB) cohort. Twenty students successfully completed the program.

The International Baccalaureate (IB) is a globally recognized educational program that provides a high-quality, holistic education. It emphasizes critical thinking, problem-solving, and a broad curriculum that includes languages, sciences, mathematics, and the arts. Assessments include essays, projects, and presentations, comprehensively evaluating student skills and understanding. Overall, IB prepares students for success in a globalized world by developing well-rounded, independent thinkers.

The IB cohort undertook a rigorous curriculum, completing six IB-level courses, the IB Theory of Knowledge course, the IB Extended Essay, and the IB Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS) requirement.

“The IB Program at CHS is a cohort program, meaning students move through their coursework as a group,” said Noah Brewer, IB coordinator at CHS. “This structure helps create strong relationships and a deep understanding of differing perspectives. Students are encouraged to see themselves as experts in their areas of strength while relying on their peers for support in areas of growth.”

This cohort of IB candidates showed commitment to their community through many projects last year.

Students continued the Blind Date with a Book and Art Auction projects, raising significant funds for local nonprofits. The Silent Art Auction raised nearly $2,000 for the Carroll County Advocacy Center. Additionally, several students created a Spanish language promotional video to introduce CHS’s programs and facilities to Spanish-speaking families.

The students’ extended essays covered a variety of topics, including the challenges of sending humans to Mars, the experiences of migrant farm workers, overcoming workplace barriers for women and individuals with autism, innovations in artificial heart development, reintroducing native red wolves in Northern Georgia, and the benefits of early bilingual education.

The graduating IB candidates are heading to various colleges and universities this fall, including Georgia State University, Georgia Tech, the University of Georgia, Mercer University, Emory University, Indiana University in Bloomington, LaGrange College with a full academic scholarship, and Washington and Lee University with a full scholarship.
