CARROLLTON, GA – Carrollton City Schools is taking significant steps to ensure the safety of students, staff, and the broader community by implementing the LifeSpot Emergency Response System, a tool designed to streamline emergency communication and response. This mobile app is part of a broader initiative to enhance the district’s comprehensive safety protocols.
LifeSpot is a cutting-edge safety technology that immediately notifies all emergency agencies, administrators, and school staff within seconds of an active shooter report. It pinpoints the exact location of the incident and enables direct communication with law enforcement. By significantly reducing response times, LifeSpot has the potential to save lives during a critical event. Carrollton City Schools is proud to be the first district in the state to adopt this innovative technology.
“Safety is our top priority, and Life Spot enhances our ability to provide a secure learning environment for all,” said Superintendent Dr. Mark Albertus. “With this technology, we can respond more effectively and give peace of mind to our school community.”
In addition to LifeSpot, CCS is implementing other key safety measures this year. The district is adding automatic locking doors and buzzers at all front entrances, allowing staff to screen visitors before granting access. While hallway and classroom doors have always remained locked throughout the day, these new entrance controls add another layer of security to ensure that only authorized individuals enter the buildings.
The district has hired a fifth school resource officer (SRO), allowing for enhanced security by placing two SROs at the high school while continuing to have one stationed at each other school daily. This addition ensures rapid response, serves as a visible deterrent, and strengthens our commitment to providing a secure environment across all campuses. As sworn officers of the Carrollton City Police Department, SROs are fully trained and certified to protect and serve the school community.
These initiatives are part of the district’s proactive approach to maintaining a safe environment, including campus surveillance, locked classroom doors, and regular safety drills to familiarize students and staff with emergency protocols.
