Carrollton City SchoolÂ’s Board of Education recognized several exemplary students during their meeting on Tuesday night. Carrollton Schools won three state championships in academic competition over the past month.

Carrollton High School senior, Blair Lipham won a state championship during the state literary competition for female vocal solo. Lipham will attend the Vanderbilt school of music in the fall.

CHS Debate coach, Richard Bracknell presented his 5A state champion debate team to the council for recognition.

“They put the work necessary to be here,” said Bracknell. “There are no slackers in this group. This is a group to be proud to be associated with.”

The debate team also participated in debate competitions at Emory, Columbia University and Harvard.

Seventh grader Kyu Alegre was recognized as the 2018 state champion speller. He will represent the entire state of Georgia in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in late May.
