Carrollton-based Criminal Defense Attorney Jason W. Swindle Sr. of Swindle Law Group P.C. told WLBB Radio this week that he is “representing (former Carrollton Police) Officer (Jerric) Gilbert.”
The 35-year old former school resource officer was arrested by the GBI last Friday.
On April 21, 2022, the GBI Regional Investigative Office in Columbus (Region 2) was requested by the Carrollton Police Department to investigate an allegation of criminal misconduct against Gilbert by Carrollton City Schools in which Gilbert was assigned as a School Resource Officer at Carrollton Elementary School. The Carrollton Police Department immediately initiated an internal investigation which resulted in the termination of Gilbert.
The investigation revealed that on Friday, April 15, 2022, Gilbert encouraged an 11-year-old girl to touch him inappropriately while at his home.
Gilbert was charged with one count of Child Molestation and one count of Violation of Oath by Public Officer.
A Judge in Carroll County set a bond of $75,000 for Gilbert, which was posted early Sunday and was released from the Carroll County Jail.
Gilbert is ordered to have no contact with anyone under the age of 18, including any children he may have.
His Attorney, Swindle– told WLBB Radio Thursday “Officer Gilbert is a fine man, citizen, and law enforcement officer. He is presumed to be innocent under both the U.S. Constitution and the Georgia Constitution. We are in the process of conducting an independent investigation into these unproven accusations.”
