Carroll County residents should see their property tax rate drop a bit again this year. The Carroll County Board of Commissioners are expected to approve the latest rate at the end of this month.
“It should go from 8.342 down to 8.261 moving forward. To me it is always good to be able to roll back the millage rate. Unlike many places that cut taxes, they cut services and we have been big provers to be able to lower people’s taxes and still maintain a quality of essential services to our residents and businesses,” said Carroll County Commission Chairman, Marty Smith. “We are committed to keeping taxes equitable to the services that we are offering. I’m not going to always say that they are going to be the lowest but we are going to keep them in perspective to the services that we offer.”
Smith said following the release of tax digest numbers, the county administration supported that the county approve the stateÂ’s suggested roll back rate. This means that the county will collect less tax dollars from property owners in the coming year.

People will ask, well if you need more money, why do you keep rolling it back? Well one, you have to submit the digest as a balance formula. To do that we have to weigh, what will the balance be if you roll it back? I think this year it made about a $174,000 difference to us,” said Smith.
The Carroll County Board of Commissioners will hold a special called meeting on August, 23 to decide the millage rate for the 2018-2019 fiscal year budget .
